Description from the seller
Gorgeous Moss Agate and Gold-Toned Metal Cabinet Snuff Box
Elegant small rectangular box, usable as a snuff box or a pill box, featuring delicate tablettery work. It is composed of finely polished calcédonine plaques (moss agate), mounted in a gilded metal framework (probably vermeil, gilded bronze, or gilded brass).
• Material: Moss agate is distinguished by deep green dendritic inclusions, creating organic patterns reminiscent of woodland landscapes or moss. In the transparent photographs one notes the superb quality of the stone, showing complex branching on a translucent background.
• The Mounting: Discreet hinge at the back and a spherical push-button on the front face. Traces of small incisions on the interior metal used for assembly. Indication of handmade workmanship.
• The Stand: The box rests on four baluster feet finished with coordinated hard stone cabochons (agate), a rare and refined finish.
• Era: Probably 19th century (Neoclassical or Biedermeier style).
• Condition: Good overall condition. A patina of use on the metal is noted, and the stones retain good integrity (no visible cracks in the photos).
