The German inventor Friedrich Deusch patented the silver overlay process in 1895 and demonstrated his work in 1907 at the Bordeaux exhibition. Thanks to him, the town Schwäbisch Gmünd became the center of German production of silver coatings.
The first objects Friedrich Deusch designed and produced were very classical, followed by an abstract phase of Art Déco in its purest form.
After Deusch & Company, other firms were founded that specialized in this technique, such as Friedrich Wilhelm Spahr and Alfred and Manfred Veyhl. Parallel to the development of German production, a similar one began in the United States.
