Description from the seller
Vase created by designer Timo Sarpaneva
The FINLANDIA series, introduced in 1964, was Timo Sarpaneva's masterpiece of the 1960s. While exploring and repeatedly experimenting with the expression of glass in search of new techniques, in 1963 Timo Sarpaneva drew inspiration from a burnt wooden mold, which was a byproduct of another experiment, and developed it into a work of art. The irregular surface texture of the glass, directly transferred from the surface of the burnt wood mold, was a revolutionary expression in the 1960s, when simple modern design, continuing from the 1950s, was somehow stagnating, and it became a trend that continued into the 1970s.
