Description from the seller
Elegant Black Lacquer Jubako – Three-Tiered Stacked Box with Floral Maki-e Design
This elegant three-tiered Japanese lacquer jubako (stacked food box) is finished in deep black urushi and decorated with a refined maki-e style floral motif. The exterior features delicate leaves and blossoms in soft tones of pink, brown, and green, accented with touches of gold, creating a graceful seasonal composition across the tiers and lid.
The interior is finished in vibrant vermilion red lacquer, offering a striking contrast to the glossy black exterior. This traditional color combination enhances both visual appeal and functionality, as red lacquer interiors are characteristic of classic jubako used for festive occasions.
Jubako are traditionally used in Japan for serving osechi ryōri (New Year’s cuisine), sweets, or celebratory dishes. The clean, modern floral design suggests production in the late 20th century, blending traditional aesthetics with a refined contemporary sensibility.
A beautifully balanced decorative and functional piece, suitable for display, seasonal use, or as part of a curated collection of Japanese lacquerware.
