Russisch messing icoon Moeder Gods 19e eeuw

Fraai Russisch messing icoon met voorstelling van Moeder Gods, uitgevoerd in verfijnd reliëf binnen een rijk geornamenteerde omlijsting. Dit type icoon maakte deel uit van de persoonlijke devotiecultuur binnen de Russisch orthodoxe traditie.

Omschrijving
Het icoon toont Moeder Gods, licht naar links gewend en met ingetogen, contemplatieve expressie. In zijn linkerhand houdt zij een geopend evangelieboek met kerkslavische inscriptie, terwijl de rechterhand in een onderwijzend of zegenend gebaar is weergegeven. De nimbus rond het hoofd benadrukt zijn heilige status. De voorstelling is omgeven door een decoratieve rand met florale en rankmotieven. 

Het icoon is gegoten in messing met duidelijke contourlijnen en een levendig spel van licht en schaduw in het reliëf. Aan de bovenzijde bevindt zich een geïntegreerd ophangoog, wat duidt op gebruik als huisicoon of reisicoon. Dergelijke messing iconen werden in de 19e eeuw in Rusland op grote schaal vervaardigd en dienden als tastbare uitdrukking van geloof, vaak gedragen of opgehangen in huiselijke gebedshoeken.
