Description from the seller
Large decorative Aubusson-style tapestry – Romantic pastoral scene
Dimensions: Height 77 cm – Width 165 cm
Period: Second half of the 20th century
Technique: Mechanical jacquard weaving
Origin: Europe
Magnificent large tapestry depicting an elegant 18th-century romantic pastoral scene, inspired by the famous French models from the Aubusson and Gobelins manufactories.
The composition is horizontal with great scenic balance. In the foreground we find an idyllic countryside setting animated by gallant figures:
• on the left, a young shepherd fishing along the lakeshore;
• beside him, a child seated on the grass;
• in the center, a young woman kneeling gathering flowers with a small agricultural cart;
• a little to the right, an elegant lady in a red dress sits on the grass holding a bouquet;
• at the far right, a young lute or mandolin player contributes to the bucolic atmosphere.
In the background a suggestive lakeside landscape opens up with a stone arched bridge, lush trees, and a village with a church and bell tower. The sky features delicate warm pastel shades that add depth and luminosity to the whole.
The border is integrated into the design and enhanced by a carved wooden frame with a repeated oval motif, perfectly proportioned to the composition. The back shows the frame structure and the original weaving.
Style
Romantic pastoral style, inspired by 18th-century French models (Aubusson / Gobelins), with Rococo and decorative Neoclassical influences.
Period
20th-century production (second half of the 1900s).
Decorative tapestry woven with mechanical jacquard on an 18th-century model.
Condition
In good overall condition, with normal signs of aging consistent with its period. Harmonious colors and well preserved, structurally solid fabric.
A work of strong decorative impact, ideal for classic, elegant rustic, or country homes. Perfect above sofas, cupboards, or large walls.
