Description from the seller

Bronze busts of centaurs, over 70 cm tall.
The pair of marble statues from which the molds originate were discovered in the excavations at Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli in 1737, and are currently housed in the Capitoline Museums and are signed: Aristeas Kai Papias Aphrodeiseis. Aristeas and Papias were two sculptors of the Aphrodisian School (modern-day Geyre, in Turkey), famous for its marble quarries and thus also for its sculptors.
In turn, these statues, datable to the Adriatic age (117–138 AD), also derive from Hellenistic models, most probably bronze, with an approximate dating to the mid-4th century BC.
The old centaur and the young one were intended to represent the human disposition toward love

Dimensions: about 70x42x15 cm
Provenance: Italy
Era: late 20th century.
