Alfonso Castrigno | Artistic Biography
Born in 1959 in Corato (BA) Alfonso Castrigno is a self-taught artist whose painting research represents a fascinating bridge between artisanal experience and metaphysical inquiry. His formation did not take place within the walls of academies, but on the scaffolds of restoring ancient decorations on ceilings, a job that allowed him to interiorize the secrets of light and classical composition directly from the great masters of the past.
Masters and Influences
His aesthetics are the result of a constant dialogue with the giants of modern art:
The search for color and spirituality of Kandinsky.
The synthesis of forms and the compositional solidity of Cézanne.
The symbolist atmosphere, precious and dreamlike, of Moreau.
The decomposition of space and the expressive force of Picasso.
To these influences is added a deep affinity with metaphysical painters, evident in the sense of temporal suspension and silence that pervades his works.
Path and Exhibitions
Active mainly in Apulia, Castrigno has participated in numerous group exhibitions, often also choosing direct contact with the public through outdoor exhibitions. This approach reflects his vision of art as a living element, capable of interacting with urban and everyday space just as the decorations he once restored did.
Poetics
Today his production stands out for the ability to fuse the plasticity of the nude and statuary with abstract and vibrant scenarios. Each canvas by Castrigno is a "vision" where reality dissolves to make room for dream and chromatic harmony, paying homage to the great European artistic tradition through an intimate and contemporary language.
Critical Review: The Work
Title: The Blue Angel
Dimensions: 100 x 70 cm
Author: Alfonso Castrigno
Critical Review
In "The Blue Angel", the artist Alfonso Castrigno creates a work that evokes a sense of deep calm and serenity. The composition, dominated by ethereal shades of blue, purple and touches of auroral pink, develops through fluid and translucent brushstrokes that suggest an ascensional movement. The angel is not depicted figuratively, but sketched among the color trails, emerging as an entity perceived through chromatic vibration and light, offering a sense of protection and peace suspended. The technique, influenced by experience in decorative restoration, manifests in chromatic clarity and the ability to let the canvas breathe, transferring to the canvas a spiritual vibration born from the artist's semi-trance state. A work of great breath, perfect for creating an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation.
