Description from the seller
This 1919 trade edition, published by Paul Cassirer in Berlin, features a poem by Reinhold von Walter accompanied by ten original woodcuts by the prominent artist Ernst Barlach. Printed by the Spamersche Buchdruckerei in Leipzig.
the work consists of approximately 32 pages in original paper wrappers, representing a significant historical document of the post-WWI European avant-garde.
Condition: The original paper wrappers are heavily age-toned with surface soiling, foxing, edge wear, and small tears. The interior pages show pronounced foxing, light dampstaining along the margins, and some waviness from past humidity exposure. The binding is tender, with visible and loosening original stitching and slight separation at the gutter. Despite these condition issues, the woodcut illustrations remain strong, dark, and well-impressed.
