Description from the seller
Rare expanded tenth edition (the first is 1728) of this famous cookery book (recipe book) and treatise on pharmacopoeia. It is a broad, reasoned list of medicaments used at the time, with detailed instructions on how to prepare them and on their dosages. Also very interesting is the “Treatise on Drugs.”
Capello, who died in Venice in 1764, descended from a noble Venetian family that since the Middle Ages included scholars, philosophers, diplomats and career soldiers. By profession a pharmacist, he managed the Spezieria de' Tre Monti in Campo Sant’Apollinare, in his city.
Giovanni Battista Capello, Pharmacoequim-Chymical Lexicon containing the remedies most used today... Tenth revised and enlarged edition by Lorenzo Capello, his nephew..., Venice, Antonio Graziosi, 1775.
PP.: IV, XII, 268. COMPLETE.
Copy with pages in overall fairly good condition, with signs of use and time and widespread foxing. Some stains and small woodworm galleries that sometimes damage even some letters of text.
Modern half-leather binding with manuscript title on the spine, very well preserved. Front free endpaper missing. Red edges."
