AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

30s-era smoking table / console table with a brass top and turned legs
The turned legs, bobbin legs, are typical of the early 20th century, which is why I estimate the period, based on visual features including the aging of the wood, to be 1910 to 1930.
The brass top with a ribbed (grooved) surface and decorative edge is a classic feature of smoking tables from this period. Such tables were imported but also often inspired by Eastern styles (such as Moroccan or Egyptian designs).
The ornamentation of the top is fairly timid. A kind of fish scales. Not as richly detailed as Moroccan or Egyptian designs. My suspicion is therefore that it is a European-made table. This type of table was very fashionable in European interiors at the time.
This table comes from Germany, Hamburg. Where the table originated before that is unknown.
Looking at the base, the wood is very uniformly dark. The underside of the top is not blackened; pencil notes and screw holes are visible there. The screws with which the base is attached are flat-head screws. Based on the joints, I also date this table to around 100 years old.
Although oak was sometimes dark-stained, the very even, jet-black color of this kind of antique tables often points to “ebonizing.” This is a technique in which lighter wood (such as beech, fruitwoods, or sometimes oak) is treated to imitate the appearance of costly ebony. The grain is sometimes scarcely visible, but with this table it is still noticeable. I estimate that the wood of the base is not oak. This is based on the table’s weight. It weighs only 7.4 kilograms.

Height 58.5 cm
Diameter 55 cm
Weight 7.4 kg

The table bears its signs of age; you can clearly see a dent in the brass top and along the edge, showing that it is an old table. This also applies to its sturdiness. Sturdy but with some movement. The photos are part of the description. Please examine the photos carefully so you can be assured of the beauty of this magnificent object. Also review the shipping costs before bidding; when you purchase the table it will be well packed and insured and sent to you.
