Description from the seller
Miner's carbide lamp – late 19th century
Authentic witness of industrial archaeology
An object that is fascinating and rich in history: an antique carbide (acetylene) lamp used in the early decades of the 20th century in mining and industrial settings. Gifted by an old miner to my great-grandfather when he was a child (in 1915).
This lamp is not just a period utensil, but a true fragment of lived life: imagined among underground tunnels, workshops and construction sites, it lit daily work with its living flame fueled by acetylene.
Made in brass/bronze with a double stacked tank structure:
• lower tank for calcium carbide
• upper tank for water with a threaded cap
• front nozzle for gas outlet
• forged metal arch handle for transport
Dating roughly between 1900 and 1930.
The surface retains a splendid original patina, intense and tactile, with signs of time that tell its authenticity. It has not been polished or altered, maintaining its industrial character.
Present inscribed marking “1K” on the body.
The front reflector is not present.
Ideal for:
• collectors of lamps and mining instruments
• enthusiasts of industrial archaeology
• vintage/industrial furniture with strong visual impact
An authentic piece, with over a century of history, capable of adding character and memory to any space.
Conditions consistent with age, with normal signs of wear.
