Bronze Buddha statue seated in meditation (Padmāsana), Laos, dating to the 18th–19th century, with a single-piece flared base cast by lost-wax technique, height 17 cm, width 10 cm, depth 6 cm, in very good condition and unsigned, not supplied with a stand.
Description from the seller
Buddha seated in meditation
XVIIIe–XIXe century
Laos
Bronze, lost-wax casting
Height 17 cm x width 10 cm x depth 6 cm
Representation of the Buddha seated in padmāsana on an expanded base, the right hand in bhūmisparśa mudrā, gesture of taking the earth as witness, and the left hand resting on the legs. The face presents a serene expression with almond-shaped eyes half-closed, gentle brow ridges, and finely drawn lips. The hair is treated in small tight curls crowned by a tall, tapering ushnisha in flame-like shape. The elongated earlobes are well marked. The slender torso and sober modeling correspond to the characteristics of Laotian statuary in an ethnically inspired work. The flared base, cast in one piece with the figure, is hollow inside, confirming a lost-wax casting. Beautiful old brown-green-black patina with nuances and wear coherent with age.
Condition:
Very good overall ancient condition. Surface wear, small casting irregularities and slight losses compatible with age.
Provenance: Kanaka The Collection
Sent with certificate of authenticity
