Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist at home and abroad. His artworks are included in several renowned art collections, and he was the first Dutch artist to be elected as Official Olympic Artist for the Winter Games in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels's artworks lies always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Clemens Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISME: he prefers to imagine the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with a different, imaginative view of everyday things and is often met with surprises as a result.
Briels imagines the experiences he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, with their musically tinged, lightly erotic undertones, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels's artworks are never bound to a specific time and depict universal themes, cosmopolitan imaginations of everyday life. Clemens Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the tool, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by showing images different from what we are supposed to see. Because stereotypes are learned rather than imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is met with surprises.
Framed dimensions: 62 x 56 cm
Unframed dimensions: 33 x 30 cm
Viewings are, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the trade organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to use this service, please let us know.
