Description from the seller
In many of Corneille's works exotic landscapes, tropical themes and birds play an important role. He combines these subjects with a clear, childlike style and a strong color impression. Especially yellow and blue recur: yellow for sun, warmth and life energy, blue for sky, water and freedom. The birds reinforce the sense of movement, freedom and the distant, unknown. Through these elements Corneille creates a world that feels both playful and dreamlike.
Corneille (1922–2010) was co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator in post-war art. His work developed from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women and flowers. This colorful screen print is a nice example of his later style.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 77 x 86 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 51 x 59 cm
Framed work.
Viewing possible. We have our own frame-making workshop (85th anniversary) and work with recognized restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Please feel free to contact us via our website.
