Technical conditions
• Brakes and chain in perfect condition
• Engine, clutch and gearbox performance in perfect condition
• Engine/mechanics conditions perfect
• Electrical system all functioning
The Ducati 916 project was developed under the direction of Massimo Tamburini, director of the Cagiva Research Centre. The motorcycle was presented at the Milan Show in October 1993, where it met with immediate success, earning the title of Motorcycle of the Year for the following year.
The sitting position, although uncomfortable for road use, proved optimal for riding between curves. Among the most significant innovations was the unusual single-sided swingarm, which simplified the replacement of the rear wheel. Additionally, the bike boasted a superior aerodynamic profile due to the absence of side exhausts, and a notable weight reduction that ensured performance notably better than the 888 model.
From a stylistic standpoint, the 916 managed to combine traditional Ducati elements, such as the Trellis frame, with a modern design featuring innovative solutions, such as the two exhausts positioned under the seat and the teardrop-shaped headlights.
The engine of the 916 was represented by an evolution of the water-cooled Desmoquattro V-twin, already present in previous models, but properly modified. Displacement was increased up to 916 cm³, and Pankl connecting rods were used.
The distribution remained desmodromic, with a timing belt drive and 4 valves per cylinder. The dry clutch, equipped with 15 plates, contributed to a ready and responsive engine
With a single injector per cylinder, and intake valves of 33 mm and exhaust valves of 29 mm, the 916 Strada managed to deliver 114 HP at 9000 rpm, completing the 400 meters in 10.7 seconds, despite a weight of 198 kg. This latter factor, combined with frame rigidity and the quality of the suspensions, gave the bike excellent stability and precision, particularly important for a machine designed for the track.
The Ducati 916 represents an exceptional example of how engineering, design, and performance can merge to create an iconic motorcycle capable of achieving lasting success in the global motorcycle scene.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
