Antique 4/4 violin labelled Sandners Sohn from Schönbach (Bohemia), circa 1880, with a spruce top and flamed maple back, in very good physical condition and tested and operational, supplied with a hard case and a bow (re-hair needed).
Description from the seller
An fascinating antique violin in 4/4 format from the luthier tradition of Schönbach School, an important European center for the construction of bowed instruments between the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Inside there is the original label reading:
Sandners Sohn
Musik-Instrumenten & Saiten-Fabrik
Schönbach in Böhmen
The instrument can be dated to about 1880 and reflects the construction models of the Central European tradition inspired by the famous Stradivari models.
The soundboard is spruce with a regular grain, while the back is made of splendid flamed maple in two pieces with wide, deep, and highly decorative flame, a feature particularly sought after in instruments of the Bohemian luthier tradition.
The back flame is clearly evident and gives the instrument a strong aesthetic presence, enhanced by a warm and transparent varnish with amber and honey-red tones that magnificently highlights the wood fibers.
From a sonic point of view, the instrument surprises with a powerful, warm, and very resonant sound.
The violin has been tested by several musicians and professionals in the field, who appreciated its sound quality, good projection, and the richness of the harmonics.
This combination of beauty of the woods and sound quality makes the instrument particularly interesting both for musicians and for collectors of antique instruments.
Aesthetically it shows some small signs of time and normal superficial imperfections consistent with its age, visible in the photographs, which do not compromise stability or sound performance.
The violin is sold complete with a rigid case with a functioning key.
There is also a bow included that requires string replacement or rehairing.
Photos are an integral part of the description. Guaranteed careful packing entrusted to professionals in the field.
The violins and bows described as 'certified' or 'attribed' include images of their respective certificates and are therefore considered to have a higher documented degree of certainty regarding the luthier, origin, and age than instruments described only as 'labeled' (violins) or 'stamped' (bows), for which we provide no warranty of any kind.
