The fountain pen is presented in very good overall condition, especially notable for the vividness and uniformity of its characteristic coral-red celluloid, a finish highly appreciated in pre-war Montblanc productions. The material retains a good color depth and natural shine, with a very attractive appearance that enhances the classic design of the Simplo series.

The body and cap show light micro-signs of use consistent with the passage of time, consisting of small surface marks visible only upon close inspection. No cracks or structural deformations in the celluloid are observed, maintaining excellent integrity for a piece from this era. The inscriptions “SIMPLO ORIGINAL MONTBLANC” are clearly legible on the body, maintaining good definition.

The cap shows overall good conservation, with the metal rings properly aligned and with wear appropriate to its age. The Montblanc clip in the classic style remains firm and functional, displaying a natural patina that adds historical character to the piece. At the top of the cap the emblematic Montblanc symbol is preserved, correctly integrated and in good condition.

At the butt (heel) the engraving of the number 4 can be seen, corresponding to the model size within the Simplo line, maintaining good definition.

The original 14-karat gold Montblanc nib is well preserved, with the engravings still visible and a solid structure. The tip appears correctly aligned and suitable for writing, preserving the characteristic springy feel typical of Montblanc nibs from this era, which provides a smooth writing experience with pleasant feedback.

The filling system has been serviced and put into operation, ensuring proper and reliable use. As is customary in piston-filler fountain pens of this generation, the mechanism operates smoothly when actuated correctly.

Overall, this is a very attractive and well-preserved example that retains the charm and elegance of pre-war Montblancs, making it an interesting piece for both collection and use.

Conservation recommendations

To preserve the piece in optimal condition, use high-quality inks specific to fountain pens, avoid pigmented or highly saturated inks, clean the system with lukewarm water if not used for an extended period, carefully dry before storage, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. The filling system should always be operated gently to maintain proper function over time.
