Montblanc Simplo Nº2 fountain pen, plastic body with gold-plated trim, made in Alemania, mid-20th century, length 12.7 cm, diameter 1.1 cm, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
The Montblanc Simplo No. 2 fountain pen is presented in overall very good condition, especially noteworthy given its age, roughly dating to the 1920s.
The barrel, made of red hard rubber (ebonite), maintains a very attractive and uniform color, with a deep coral tone that preserves good visual presence. The surface shows light signs of use typical of time, such as small micro-scratches and a gentle natural patina in some areas, with no structural cracks or deformations. The material retains its integrity and stability, particularly notable in pieces from this period.
The black ebonite cap is well preserved, with a proper fitting when closed. The early Montblanc emblem on the top remains present and legible, showing only minor wear appropriate to its age. At the tail end, the model size marking
"2" is clearly visible.
The gold-plated clip engraved with "Montblanc Simplo" maintains good engraving definition and shows a soft patina on the gold, typical of originals from this era. The decorative cap bands also retain a good presence, with light, uniform wear that does not affect its aesthetics or integrity.
The body inscriptions, "Original – Montblanc" with the mountain logo, remain visible and well preserved, adding a historically appealing character to the piece.
The original 14-karat gold nib (A. Karat) with hallmark no. 2 and EF (Extra Fine) is properly aligned and in good structural condition. The feed shows good preservation, and the set is presented as functional. As usual in Collecting Legacy, the pen has been inspected and tested to ensure proper operation.
Overall, this is a very well-preserved example for its age, with wear consistent with nearly a century of history and all main original components, making it especially attractive for both collection and use.
Preservation recommendations
To keep this fountain pen in optimal condition, use high-quality inks specifically formulated for fountain pens, avoiding pigmented inks or those with particles. If not used for an extended period, clean it with lukewarm water, dry it carefully before storing, and keep it in a dry place, protected from direct light and extreme temperatures. The mechanism should be operated gently at all times to ensure durability.
It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
