On offer is a stunning, six-piece drinking service in glass that was handmade, mouth blown, and purchased in Murano, Italy, in the late 1960s. The mid-century set includes a tall tapering amethyst-coloured glass carafe/pitcher with an applied handle, decorated with an abstract raised-line design in 24-karat gold, along with four matching long drinking glasses along and a stirring rod. The carafe holds 1150 ml of liquid and the glasses hold 250 ml. This is a marvellous example of Italian glass artistry — the pieces display intricately detailed gold irregular lines and blown mottled surfaces that allow for light refractions and reflections, and give the set a sense of momentum. Indeed, the drinking service shows the talent to design functional/utilitarian pieces that are exquisitely artistic and truly inspired. These types of art glass sets are highly pursued by collectors around the world. Measurements: Carafe/pitcher is 33 cm high and 13.5 cm wide (at the widest point, including the spout and handle) and has a base diameter of 13 cm; the glasses measure 15 cm high, with a top diameter of 7.5 cm: and the stirring rod is 39.5 cm long. Condition: Mint. Only ever used as a decoration.
