Table lamp - Pewter

An antique oil clock, also known as "lampoggio", made of pewter and glass dating from the late 18th century and the early 19th century. Of European origin. The Roman numerals on the pewter part of the cylinder, arranged vertically from V (for 5:00 PM) to VII (for 7:00 AM), are engraved to indicate the night hours when the oil ran out. A tall, candelabra-shaped base with a wrist rest and an oil reservoir, usually whale oil, which burned cleanly and evenly, providing the fuel for an integrated lamp. When the level in the reservoir dropped, it provided an approximate measure of the passage of time.
