AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Unique 1930 Harley-Davidson "Forty-Five" DL sidecar combination, complete with German papers.

This iconic American V-twin motorcycle was developed at the time in response to the increasing competition from the Indian Scout.

This unique Harley sidecar combination rides, brakes and shifts well; see the walk around video with running engine:

Harley-Davidson introduced the "Flathead", i.e. the side-valve concept, for the V-twins in model year 1929 with the introduction of the 750cc model D.

This model D is also known as the "three-cylinder Harley" due to the remarkable vertical placement of the generator to the left of the engine. The generator was mounted vertically to avoid the front frame tube (see also photo 25/42).

Another notable feature of the early 750cc models are the twin Bullet headlights, which were used only in 1929 and 1930.

The designation DL refers to the engine with medium compression that was installed: the D had a ratio of 4.3:1, the DL came out to 5.1.

There was also a high-compression version, with a compression ratio of 6:1.

The DL produced about 18 hp at 4000 rpm. Top speed was just slightly over 100 km/h. Some new features for 1930 were: a new frame that lowered the saddle height and increased ground clearance, forged I-beam front forks and a double primary chain drive with automatic lubrication.

About 5700 units of the model D found an enthusiastic owner in 1930.

The original standard Harley color was olive green, the handlebars and rims were finished in black.

The Harley is in a nice condition appropriate for its period, an older restoration that has been well preserved with beautiful patina. There are normal signs of use here and there on the Harley, so please look closely at the photos.

You are most welcome to come and view and test ride the Harley Davidson before placing a bid.

The frame number matches the German papers. The sidecar is also listed on the German papers. Registration is at the buyer’s own expense and must be arranged by the buyer. Because of its age there is no warranty on the motor.

Transport:
Worldwide shipping possible. The motorcycle is offered without fuel and battery due to possible transport. Transport is provided all over Europe. Note that Catawiki states we need 4 days for transport, this is for parcel post, not for sidecar motorcycles. Of course we will ship as quickly as possible.

You are, of course, welcome to arrange your own transport or pick up the Harley yourself.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration.
