Comb - Horn - Signed Gip Georges Pierre

This Art Nouveau hair comb, about 11.4 by 8 cm, is a work by Georges Pierre, the renowned French creator specializing in horn work. Made in finely sculpted blonde horn and tinted, it features a dragonfly with veined wings, whose green and orange hues emphasize the naturalism characteristic of this style.
The piece bears on the back the handwritten incised signature “GIP.” Georges Pierre worked at the beginning of the 20th century, developing sophisticated techniques to render horn translucent and to apply colored inks. His work, highly sought after by collectors, is often associated with that of Elizabeth Bonté, with whom he later collaborated.
Weighing 12.56 g, this comb testifies to the artist’s technical virtuosity in miniature insect sculpture, a hallmark of his output.
