Description from the seller
VAL SAINT LAMBERT – Pair of candlestick holders “Sacred Heart”
The Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ
Pressed satin crystal – Early 20th century
Exceptional pair of pressed crystal candlestick holders made by the prestigious Val Saint Lambert workshops, depicting the Virgin Mary with the Immaculate Heart on one side and Jesus Christ with the Sacred Heart on the other, emblematic iconography of sacred art from the Belle Époque.
Each piece features a finely sculpted figure, resting on a base richly adorned with cherubs with outstretched wings, arranged at each foot, lending the overall composition a strong symbolic dimension and a striking sculptural presence. The drip pan is delicately decorated with herbal motifs, evoking oak leaves or stylized foliage, adding an naturalistic elegance typical of the period’s decorative vocabulary.
The circular base is embellished with relief medals representing the traditional theological symbols:
– the Heart,
– the Cross,
– the Anchor,
symbols of charity, faith, and hope, perfectly integrated into the composition and reinforcing the spiritual significance of the whole.
Each candlestick measures 23 cm in height by 13 cm in diameter. The satin-finished crystal catches the light softly, underscoring the finesse of the drapery, the precision of the faces, and the quality of execution characteristic of Val Saint Lambert religious productions from the early 20th century.
Rare and decorative, this set constitutes a remarkable testament to Belgian glassmaking expertise and the importance of religious iconography in the period’s decorative arts.
Condition: very good condition, no notable accidents despite its age
Pair sought after by collectors of antique crystal, sacred art, and Val Saint Lambert works.
