Oscar WILDE - Aubrey BEARDSLEY
SALOME: A tragedy in one act: translated from the French Pictured by Aubrey BEARDSLEY
London: Melmoth & Co., 1904. In-8 (16x23 cm.) bound in blue editorial cloth with the title stamped in gold on the spine, pp. 75 + 1 c.b., with the magnificent 16 illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley (listed on 1 illustrated plate), with the entire iconographic apparatus produced by the English artist, which had been partly censored in the first edition of 1894. The first authorized edition to include the censored drawings was printed in 1907. This 1904 edition is a rare “pirate edition,” published in only 250 numbered copies on handmade paper (plus a run of 50 on “special deluxe Japanese vellum”). Copy no. 186 - This famous drama was written by Wilde in French and published in Paris in 1893 (the English translation was done by Lord Douglas).
