Description from the seller
Saint-Marc Crystal Vase by René Lalique
This iconic piece, designed by René Lalique around 1930–1939, embodies the Art Deco elegance of the Lalique house.
The Saint-Marc vase, molded in clear and satin-finished crystal, stands about 17.5 cm tall, with an upper diameter of about 17 cm and a base of about 6 cm.
It features an elongated conical shape with overlapping horizontal bands, adorned with bird reliefs (pigeons or sparrows) symbolizing freedom and nature.
Marked "Lalique France" on the base, it highlights light contrasts thanks to casting and satin finishing. Detailed description
The pyramidal structure flares from bottom to top, formed by decreasing bands edged with beaded motifs for a rhythmic texture.
On each band, precisely carved birds—with fine beaks, folded wings, and chiselled feathers—face each other, creating a sense of movement and dialogue.
The transparent crystal lets light pass through, while the satin reliefs diffuse an opalescent halo, bringing the composition to life.
Inspired by fauna, this vase turns a utilitarian object into a narrative sculpture, ideal for flowers or as a decorative piece.
About the artist: René Lalique
René Lalique (1860–1945), a pioneer of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, revolutionized glass by integrating natural motifs with innovative techniques such as satinage (satin finishing). His works, influenced by fauna and flora, fuse realism and stylization, and have been exhibited internationally. Context at Lalique
Founded in 1888, the Lalique house has specialized in crystal since 1921 at Wingen-sur-Moder. The Saint-Marc vase fits into 1930s Art Deco, with animal motifs produced in limited editions, continuing an artisanal heritage.
This piece brings natural sophistication to a interior. A timeless investment in French art.
