Large Victorian silver cup, made in London in .925 sterling silver, with lion passant and leopard head marks, dated 1874, height 38 cm, width 29 cm (including handles), top diameter 19 cm, bottom diameter 15.3 cm, decorated in the Victorian style with acanthus leaves and scrolls and a cartouche bearing the inscription.

Large-sized cup in 925 silver, English (lion passant hallmark)
City: London (leopard head hallmark)
Year of manufacture: 1874 (hallmark with the date letter t)
Era: Victorian (there is also the hallmark with the Queen's head)
Dimensions: Height 38 cm, width with handles 29 cm, top diameter 19 cm, bottom diameter 15.3 cm.
Typical decoration of the Victorian style, in repoussé, with acanthus leaves and scrolls, a cartouche on one side bearing the inscription below and on the other a military heraldic crest.
The inscription is as follows:
"Presented to the Officers Mess. Carabineers. In remembrance of the great hospitality shown to Hoey, Queen's Bays, H. Clerk, Queen's Bays, J.D.U. Henry, Scots Greys, during their stay with them at Shorncliffe, June 5th 1875".

Object intended for the officers of the Carabineers, a heavy cavalry regiment of the British Army. The cup was a thank-you gift for the hospitality received at the Shorncliffe military camp (Kent). At that period the Queen's Bays were serving between Ireland and England before being sent to India in 1885.
