Description from the seller
Chinese cloisonné enamel peony and chrysanthemum decorative bowl – 20th century
Large decorative Chinese cloisonné enamel bowl with rich, colorful floral decoration.
The bowl is made using the traditional cloisonné technique, where fine copper wires are applied to a copper base and the compartments are filled with colored enamel. After firing and polishing, the characteristic glossy surface emerges.
The front features an exuberant composition of blooming peonies and chrysanthemums in vibrant shades of red, blue, pink, and ivory against a turquoise background. In Chinese symbolism, the peony represents wealth and prosperity, while the chrysanthemum symbolizes elegance and a long life. The back is finished in the characteristic turquoise enamel with a fine gold-colored floral motif and a gilded rim.
Such cloisonné bowls were produced in Chinese ateliers during the 20th century, particularly in Beijing, and were popular as decorative export art.
The bowl is presented on a wooden display stand
