BRONZE WINGED GRIFFIN – FABBRICA M. GUGGENHEIM, VENICE – LATE 19th CENTURY
Fantastic bronze depicting a winged griffin with a serpentine body, wings spread and an expressive head with an open beak. Solid casting finely chiselled, preserving its original golden bronze patina.
The piece bears the recessed mark “Fabbrica M. Guggenheim Venezia”, a Venetian manufactory active at the end of the 19th century, renowned for its decorative castings inspired by medieval and Renaissance repertoires.
Height: 13.5 cm
Condition: wear to the patina from use, light soiling in the hollows and a small old flake on the reverse of one wing. No restorations.
