Description from the seller
Object Title
Statue of the Virgin Mary with rosary – polychrome devotional sculpture – 20th century
Elegant devotional statue depicting the Virgin Mary in a prayerful posture, hands joined and the rosary descending along the drape of the garment. The figure is rendered according to traditional Marian iconography, with a blue veil and light robe, symbols of purity and the heavenly dimension of Mary in Catholic tradition.
The figure’s posture, slightly tilted upward with a serene and contemplative expression, recalls representations of the Immaculate Conception Madonna common in European sacred art from the 17th century onward and particularly popular in devotional sculptures of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The work is made of plaster, material used for decorative and devotional sculptural reproductions that allows a surface similar to carved stone while maintaining good definition of the details. The polychromy, with the typical contrast between the white of the garment and the blue of the mantle, faithfully reprises the Marian iconographic tradition.
The modeling is delicate and harmonious: the face bears a serene and spiritual expression, while the drapery of the garment falls in soft, natural folds that give movement to the figure. At the base there is a decoration with stylized natural elements, a typical feature of domestic devotional figurines.
These sculptures were often placed in domestic settings, small family altars, private chapels, or places of devotion, where they represented a symbol of protection and spirituality.
An object of devotion and at the same time a refined decorative element, ideal for collectors of sacred art or for rooms with a classical taste.
Overall good condition with normal signs of age and use, consistent with the object's age.
Adequate packaging and traceable shipping throughout Europe.
