Gres bottle-shaped vase from Spain, Mid-Century Modern style, 17 cm high, 7 cm in diameter, 362 g, dating circa 1950–1970, with hand-esgrafiated leaf design and beige engobe over red clay.
Description from the seller
Stoneware jar in the shape of a bottle, characterized by its hand-scratched leaf esgrafia design.
This type of piece is usually vintage in style, with similar examples dated to the mid-20th century (1950s and 1960s).
The craftsman used red clay for the body of the jar and then applied an engobe (a layer of liquid clay) in beige or cream on top.
Esgrafiado Technique: The leaf design isn’t simply painted; it was created by scratching or incising the upper beige layer to reveal the dark (reddish-brown) clay color underneath.
This combination of a reddish base with esgrafiado decoration is very characteristic of French folk pottery (such as La Borne or Vallauris) and of certain styles of traditional Spanish and Mexican pottery (such as Tonalá) from the mid-20th century.
Style: Mid-Century Modern or artisanal (Studio Pottery).

Weighs 360 g
