Pair of Art Deco bookends in patinated Régule bronze depicting two seated facing dogs on a veined grey marble base, each about 13 × 13 × 8 cm.
Description from the seller
Pair of Art Deco bookends featuring two dogs – patinated bronze-toned metal and veined marble base
Description :
Elegant pair of bookends depicting two seated dogs facing each other, in a characteristic Art Deco period style.
The sculptures, finely detailed (muzzle, ears upright, musculature), rest on solid bases of veined gray marble with a central gap serving as support for the books. The dogs appear inspired by guard dogs of the shepherd type, very popular in decorative iconography of the 1920s-1930s.
The figures are made of patinated metal in bronze color (patinated bronze patina, bronze possible), offering a strong decorative presence. The patina shows slight traces of oxidation and wear, consistent with age and use, which enhance their authentic charm.
This pair constitutes an elegant decorative object for a library, a desk, or a collection of Art Deco items.
