Description from the seller
Title: The Beach
School: Catalan School (20th century)
Author: Eliseu Pala
Style: Mediterranean Post-Impressionism
Technique: Oil on canvas
Author:
Eliseu Pala was a painter active during the 20th century, linked to the Catalan landscape tradition. His output focuses mainly on seascapes and coastal landscapes, where he stands out for a loose and expressive brushwork, a careful capture of Mediterranean light, and a balanced composition that gives prominence to both the natural environment and the architecture integrated into the landscape.
The composition represents a Mediterranean cove with crystal-clear waters in the foreground, where the waves break gently against the rocks. On the left, a hill covered with lush vegetation rises, above which stands a fortified medieval building, with a crenellated tower and a wall, dominating the landscape.
The pictorial treatment shows a dynamic, thickly painted brushstroke, especially visible in the movement of the water and in the masses of trees. The color palette combines deep blues and turquoise in the sea with greens and ochers in the vegetation and rocks, creating a harmonious and luminous whole. The sky, resolved with light clouds and loose strokes, provides atmospheric depth to the scene.
The work conveys serenity and balance, integrating architecture and nature in an idealized view of the Mediterranean coast.
Presented with a carved gilded wooden frame, of a classical molded profile, finished in an aged gold tone. The whole frames the scene elegantly and reinforces its traditional character. Subtle signs of use are visible in keeping with its age.
Observations:
Work in good overall condition, consistent with its age.
Dimensions:
86.5 x 105.7 cm (with frame)
69.6 x 89.8 cm (without frame)
