Set of 2 antique engravings – Biblical emblems from the 17th/18th century

A particularly atmospheric duo of historical engravings, originating from an emblem book or illustrated biblical commentary from the 18th century. These small yet powerful prints combine image and text in a characteristic way: moralizing biblical quotes in old Dutch are accompanied by symbolic representations, typical of the rich emblem tradition of the early modern period.

The engravings show passages from the Book of Job and are executed in fine copper engraving, with elegant line work and beautiful typography. The scenes are rich in symbolism: human figures, attributes and allegorical elements refer to transience, justice and human existence. The prints are professionally framed and provided with a Passepartout, making them ready to hang immediately and giving them a warm, classical appearance.

Condition
