Decorative vintage cast-iron doorstop in the form of a Kingfisher, handpainted and dating to 1960–1970, made in the United Kingdom.
Description from the seller
A decorative vintage cast-iron doorstop in the form of a kingfisher perched on a branch. The piece is beautifully hand-painted in rich shades of blue, green and black with yellow accents, capturing the distinctive plumage and long pointed beak of the bird. The textured feathers and naturalistic branch create a lively and detailed sculptural composition.
The bird stands on an irregular green base decorated with small golden dots, adding a charming folk-art character to the object. The reverse side shows the solid cast construction typical of traditional doorstops, giving the piece both weight and durability for practical use.
Doorstops in animal forms became popular in the early to mid-20th century and were produced mainly in cast iron. Today they are appreciated as decorative objects as well as functional pieces for interiors, combining rustic charm with sculptural appeal.
Good vintage condition with minor wear to the paint consistent with age and use.
A charming decorative object for collectors of vintage doorstops, bird sculptures or country house interiors, equally attractive as a functional piece or as a display item.
