Superbe Tambour decoratif Yaka du Zaïre.

Cet instrument se portait à l'aide d'une cordelette munie d'un bâton de bois en guise de contrepoids. Il occupait une place centrale lors du ngoombu weefwa, un rituel divinatoire complexe destiné à éradiquer les fléaux héréditaires. Tout en marquant la cadence des chants du devin-guérisseur (nganga), l'objet servait également de réceptacle pour les préparations médicinales ou de siège lors des consultations. Ses traits sculptés, aux yeux clos évoquant la clairvoyance et aux coiffures symbolisant le prestige, personnifient le devin et assurent la médiation avec le monde ancestral.
