Large silver-plated jardinière in Swedish Jugend design, dating from ca. 1900–1940, with a glass liner, 9.7 cm high, 37 cm wide, 15 cm deep and weighing 1526 g, in good condition with minor signs of ageing.
Description from the seller
A large silver-plated jardinière in a beautiful Swedish Jugend design, made for table displays such as floral arrangements or fruit.
The piece features an openwork metal frame with geometric and foliate motifs along the upper band. The body has an oval form and stands on four small rounded feet, with two curved handles on the sides.
Inside sits the original fitted glass liner, shaped to follow the interior of the metal frame and finished with a scalloped rim.
This type of jardinière was produced in the early to mid-20th century (approximately 1900–1940) and reflects the transition from the Art Nouveau period into early Art Deco design.
The underside is stamped inside a rectangular cartouche: Ia NS.
NS stands for Nysilver, and Ia is the maker’s mark.
The condition is good. There is some wear to the silver plating in places, revealing the golden metal underneath. The glass liner has a few small micro-chippings along the rim; they are minor, not sharp, and are hardly noticeable. Overall, the piece looks amazing.
Measurements:
Height: approx. 9.7 cm
Width: approx. 37 cm
Depth: approx. 15 cm
Weight: 1526 g
