Still life with carnations, oil on wood panel signed and dated 1986, 39 × 29 cm, framed, by Deutsche Schule (XX) in a classical 20th‑century floral style.
Description from the seller
Still Life with Cloves – Oil on wooden panel, signed “HR”, dated 1986, framed
Artwork size 39 x 29 cm
Frame size 58 x 48 cm
For sale is a decorative floral still life, rendered in oil on a wooden panel and signed “HR” at the bottom right with the date “86.” The artist has not yet been clearly identified, which lends the work the charming character of an individual studio piece.
The painting shows a loosely arranged bouquet of cloves in various color shades—from delicate cream and yellow tones to bold pink and scarlet—in a simple vase. The flowers stand out effectively against a dark, calm background, allowing their colorfulness and the lively brushwork to come to the fore. The depiction blends naturalistic attention to detail with a lightly impressionistic brushwork, especially visible in the blossoms and leaves.
Stylistically, the work sits in the tradition of European floral still lifes, which have been a staple of painting since the 17th century. The loose, impasto brushwork and the decorative colorfulness recall still lifes of late modernism or the 20th century, in which classical motifs are interpreted with freer painting. Especially typical is the emphasis on color effect over a strictly academic representation.
The painting is housed in an ornate gold frame that, with its floral decorative elements, underlines the character of the subject and gives the work a dignified presence.
