Mid-Century Modern cigarette ashtray with pipe rack (1950s-1960s). This is a floor ashtray combined with a pipe holder.
Space Age style, the chrome spherical shape and the sinuous lines recall the futuristic aesthetics typical of the space race era.
Materials: shiny chrome steel with plastic details or mint/pastel bakelite (very popular in the 1950s).
The upper sphere is the ashtray. The circular spring inside is used to rest the cigarette or, more specifically in this case, to clean and rest the pipe.
The lower rack with green knobbed ends is designed to accommodate several pipes.

Objects of this type were often produced in Italy or Germany (companies like Demeyere or Italian artisanal productions in the Reguitti or Osvaldo Borsani style).

It is in decent condition with some signs of wear and small tarnish spots on the chrome.

The last image is purely evocative of the function of this pipe holder. Its measurements indicate that it was meant for use from a chair.
