Description from the seller
These dishes are a classic example of Deruta ceramic, an important Umbrian artisanal tradition famous worldwide for its hand-forged and hand-painted maiolica by master artisans.
The depicted design is a variant of the famous Raffaellesco style, one of the most iconic and traditional decors of Deruta.
The first dish features, at its center, a stylized mythological creature, similar to a winged deer or a chimera, typical of the Renaissance repertoire inspired by the 'grottesche' discovered in Nero’s Domus Aurea and popularized by Raphael.
It is surrounded by rich floral and vegetal motifs with a vibrant color palette that includes ochre yellow, cobalt blue, copper green, and manganese red on a white background.
The second dish presents at its center, hand-drawn and painted, a rooster which is a symbol of prosperity and good fortune, surrounded by lush floral decorations and multicolored swirls.
These plates are often made as decorative wall pieces, with holes on the back for hanging, but they can also be used as serving dishes if certified for food use.
These types of pieces are often called "fangotto" when they have a slightly concave shape.
Both have a diameter of 34 cm and weigh 1.5 kg each. When placed on a flat surface, such as a table, they have a height of 5 cm.
