Description from the seller
MEDSAN - Electric Oiran – La Courtisane Électrique – Electric Oiran
With this square-format work (40x40 cm), Medsan, under his alter ego Popsan, unfolds the full richness of his narrative and cinematic pictorial style. The artist offers here a grand fresco where the solemn beauty of traditional Japanese landscapes collides head-on with the micro-mobility of our 21st century.
The visual and sociological contrast is masterful. The scene opens on a panorama worthy of the great masters of Edo-era landscape: a wooden bridge teeming with life, bathed in the warm, low sun of a spectacular sunset, with the timeless silhouette of Mount Fuji in the background. At the center of this historic tableau, the anachronism strikes with absolute grace: a high-ranking woman (Geisha or Oiran), wearing a sumptuous kimono with floral motifs, cuts through the crowd not on foot or in a palanquin, but riding a blazingly modern black electric scooter.
The impact of the work rests as much on the light as on the comic situational irony. Around our heroine gliding silently along the wooden bridge, passersby (monks, porters, merchants, and samurai) display expressions of astonishment, incomprehension, and fascination. The artist signs here a brilliant irony on the frenzied evolution of urban transport, marrying the codified elegance of the past with the nonchalant speed of the present.
A narrative piece rich in detail, visually stunning, ideal for collectors seeking a work that blends the poetry of classical Japan with a formidable Pop and urban humor.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around vibrant contemporary creation. Established as a real art production space, the workshop operates both in collective creation and in individualized approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and supervised within the atelier, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
