Description from the seller
Pensive bronze cherub – late 19th / early 20th century
Charming little patinated bronze sculpture depicting a pensive cherub, seated, head resting on hands, wings spread behind. This figure, full of gentleness and melancholy, is typical of decorative production from the late 19th century to the very beginning of the 20th century, a period marked by a taste for Symbolist and Neo-Classical subjects.
The sculpture is entirely in the round (back worked), which confirms that it is an autonomous statuette and not merely an element of furniture. The modeling is delicate, especially in the face and in the plumage of the wings. The old patina, with brown and green tones, is uniform and natural.
Technique: old cast with visible chisel marks
Period: circa 1890–1920
Material: bronze (non-magnetic, old patina)
Signature: unsigned (decorative workshop production)
Very good overall condition.
Features an original antique patina with minor signs of age, no cracks or repairs.
This type of subject was intended for the ornamentation of bourgeois interiors (console, fireplace, display cabinet).
Authentic decorative object, ideal for a collection of bronzes or classical decor.
