Garuda - Bronze - India - 17th Century

Bronze in a splendid golden color representing Garuda in human form. Garuda appears in a kneeling pose facing Rama, with small wings protruding from his arms, wearing a conical hat, and his expression is one of absorption or reverence toward Rama. The face is somewhat blurred due to so much worship lavished on the figure, and it is of great delicacy and refinement. The base is solid, and that, together with the conical hat, leads me to think of a bronze from Orissa.
