Description from the seller
Historical wall mirror with a carved and gilded frame – neobaroque tradition, late 19th century / circa 1900
Historic wall mirror, dating from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, belonging to the eclectic decorative tradition with a clear neobaroque influence. The frame is made of carved and stuccoed wood, with gilding applied and black areas, a common technique in European decorative production of the period.
The ornamentation features stylized vegetal motifs and relief scrolls, arranged symmetrically in the corners and sides, following classical canons reinterpreted according to the historicist taste of the era. The contrast between the gilding and the dark background enhances the depth of the carving and provides a rich and balanced visual reading.
It preserves its antique glass, which shows slight marks, small imperfections, and patina compatible with its age, elements common and valued in original pieces from this period. The frame shows natural wear, slight losses, and aging of the finish, consistent with more than a century of existence and reinforcing its authenticity.
Period: late 19th – early 20th century (ca. 1880–1910)
Style: eclectic / neobaroque
Material: carved and stuccoed wood, gilding and black polychromy
Condition: damages; see photos
Dimensions:
– Width: 70 cm
– Height: 91 cm
– Frame depth: 4 cm
A decorative piece of notable presence and historical value, suitable for both collectors and classical interiors, historicist ambiances, or high-level restoration and decoration projects.
