Chess set - Model Staunton - Vintage - Wood

Beautiful vintage chess set consisting of 32 chess pieces packed in the original wooden box with a sliding lid and including a chessboard. The pieces are turned from boxwood, 16 pieces are natural and the other 16 are black-polished. The squares on the chessboard and the draughts board are light and dark brown. The wooden storage box has finger joints at the four corners; this construction provides extra strength to the box. The design of these chess pieces is attributed to Nathaniel Cooke; they bear the name of the British chess player Howard Staunton, who promoted the use of this model. Dimensions: chessboard 40.2 cm x 40.2 cm x 1.2 cm, the chess pieces vary in height from 3.4 cm to 6.9 cm and the box dimensions are 17.5 cm x 9.5 cm x 6.4 cm. Total weight: 858 grams. The chess pieces, the chessboard and the box are in good condition given their age, with minor signs of wear appropriate to their age and use.
