Description from the seller
This ancient terracotta architectural ornament is a piece that exudes history and craftsmanship, with that solemn character that is preserved only in rescued fragments of classical buildings. The terracotta, aged and marked by time, shows an eroded surface that further enhances the depth of the reliefs and the mastery of the original carving.
In the center there appears a floral motif framed by an oval shape, worked with a perfect balance between symmetry and volume. On both sides unfold volutes reminiscent of rolled leaves or classic scrolls, creating a harmonious composition very much in keeping with the ornamental language of historic architecture. At the upper and lower edges there is a row of small rounded shapes, like carved beads or pearls, which function as a decorative frame and provide visual rhythm.
The piece, despite being a fragment, retains a strong presence: one perceives that it formed part of a larger ensemble, perhaps a frieze, a facade cornice, or a decorative element of a civil or religious building. Its wear does not diminish beauty; on the contrary, it adds authenticity and turns the ornament into a tangible testament of the past, with an aesthetic that remains powerful and evocative.
Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
