Description from the seller
Two Japanese Imari plates – ca. 1880
A decorative pair of porcelain plates executed in the characteristic Imari style, originating from Japan and dating from around 1880. The plates are richly adorned with the typical combination of iron-red, deep cobalt blue and gold accents, which is so characteristic of Imari porcelain from the late 19th century.
The decoration shows a harmonious interplay of floral motifs and ornamental patterns, often symmetrically composed and applied with great precision. This style was produced in large quantities during the Meiji period for both the Japanese market and export to Europe, where Imari tableware was highly popular for its vivid colors and refined appearance.
The combination of rich colors, glossy glaze and detailed painting makes these plates attractive pieces that form a decorative whole both separately and together. Ideal for wall display or as a collectible within Japanese porcelain.
