Description from the seller
In Corneille's work, birds appear frequently as powerful symbols of freedom, movement and imagination. A crow plays a special role: due to its dark color and clean form, it often stands for mystery, power or the unknown. Corneille combines the crow with his characteristic bright colors and simplified shapes, making the animal appear at once menacing and poetic. This fits with his CoBrA background, in which spontaneous expression and intuitive visual language are central.
Corneille (1922–2010) was a co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator within postwar art. His work evolved from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women and flowers. This colorful screen print is a fine example of his later style.
Viewing possible. We have our own framing shop (85-year anniversary) and work with recognized restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Please feel free to contact us via our website.
