Figure - Virgen Policromada - 37 cm - Wood

It is a figure that embodies very well the popular devotional aesthetics of the mid-20th century. The carving, made of wood, shows a seated Virgin holding the Child on her lap. The sculptural work is simple and direct, with somewhat schematic shapes and faces with marked features, typical of rural imagery and the artisanal workshops of the era.

The polychromy gives much of its character: the Virgin wears a crown and a mantle in shades of red and green, applied with visible brushstrokes that reinforce its artisanal air. The Child, seated naturally on his mother’s lap, wears a green tunic cinched with a yellow belt that introduces a touch of luminosity. The colors, intense but slightly worn by time, evoke the tradition of domestic images intended for family chapels or small shrines.

Taken as a whole, the piece conveys closeness, simple devotion and a charm of popular origin that clearly places it in the mid-20th century, when religious imagery continued to be developed with traditional techniques and a strong manual component.
