Waterman Ideal 52 fountain pen in red ripple ebonite on celluloid with gold plating, made in the United States in the mid‑20th century, 13.6 cm long and 1.1 cm in diameter, lever‑fill with a 14K Waterman nib, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
A0000001982
Excellent overall condition, especially notable for a Waterman 52 in Ripple Red ebonite, a material that often shows discoloration or loss of intensity over time.
The red veined ebonite maintains a deep, uniform color, with excellent definition of the model’s characteristic black wavy pattern. No severe discolorations, greenish tarnish, or notable pigment loss are observed, something particularly valued in this finish. The surface retains natural shine after a light professional polish, showing only micro surface marks consistent with use and age, with no cracks, fissures, or visible repairs.
The cap shows very good structural integrity, with a firm screw and secure closure. The golden ring keeps a good plating, with very slight wear appropriate to its more than 90 years of age.
The “IDEAL” ball-end clip is straight, firm, and functional, with legible engraving and minimal wear on the contact areas. No play or deformations.
On the finial the marking “52” is visible and coherent with the model.
The original Waterman Ideal 14K nib maintains sharp engravings and excellent alignment of the nibs. No cracks or structural deformations are observed. It retains good elasticity and response, emblematic of this model. The ebonite feed is intact, with no cracks or material loss.
The lever-fill mechanism operates correctly. The lever shows good tension and proper return. (If it has been restored: the sac was replaced recently and is ready for immediate use).
It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper conservation.
Happy bidding!
